Putty Replacement and Painting
Linseed Oil Putty is widely used for glazing windows and doors. The
putty is inherently brittle and shrinks away from the glass. The
breakdown of putty causes early breakdown of paints and is mainly
responsible for open joints and in situ wood decay due to moisture
ingress.
We use an elastic glazing sealant called Dry Seal which can be
used for puttied windows, bead glazed windows and perimeter
sealing. Dry Seal is paintable with opaque and translucent wood
finishes and extremely effective against moisture ingress.
In event of the breakage of glass, Dry Seal is easier to renew
compared to the removal/renewal of Linseed Oil Putty. The use of
Dry Seal can help to achieve longer paint durability and contributes
toward the prevention of in situ wood decay.
Painting
We will only paint windows we have repaired and the resin will match in with the original timber once finished. it can be painted with all types of solvent and water based decorative paints and wood stains allowing the original timber once finished. It can be painted with all types of solvent and water based decorative paints and wood stains allowing the original character of the traditional windows to be retained.
